différence entre Levis 501 et 502

What is the difference between Levis 501 and 502?

Levi's 501® vs 502™: The Original versus the Modern Taper

Choosing a pair of jeans is a matter of shape. If you already know your size thanks to our conversion guide, you just need to choose the shape that will best highlight your figure. Today, we compare two heavyweights: the unbeatable 501® Original and the very popular 502™ Regular Taper.

1. The Silhouette: Straight vs Tapered

This is the most important difference to understand before buying:

The Levi’s 501® (Straight Cut): It is the quintessential "square" jean. The width at the leg opening is almost the same as at the knee. It falls straight onto the shoe.

The Levi’s 502™ (Tapered Cut): It is a hybrid cut. It offers room in the thighs (like a 505) but, unlike the 501, its leg narrows gradually from the knee down to the ankle. This gives a sleeker and more dynamic look.

2. The Fly: Buttons or Zip?

As with the comparison to the 505, the closure remains a choice criterion:

501®: Always the button fly. It is the seal of Levi's authenticity.

502™: A zipper for more ease in daily use.

3. The Waist Height

The 501® is worn high, at the natural waist. It is ideal for holding in the belly and giving a very marked "vintage" look.

The 502™ has a so-called "mid-low" waist. It sits more naturally on the hips, which is often considered more comfortable for modern and casual wear.
